The Holiday Season
The more I compare last year to this year, the more emotional I become. Then, I have to stop and be grateful for everything that I have and the people that I love.
It’s been a difficult year for everyone, especially people from that have made their livings in the hospitality industry. Nothing prepared us for what took place this year. As hard as this has been, my soul mission this year is to make sure that we raise up our children and their needs. So many kids have gotten lost in all this craziness.
Could you ever imagine growing up and spending an entire year of your life behind a computer, not spending time with your friends, trying to navigate school and learning, and ultimately no human contact outside your immediate family?
I’ve watched my niece and nephew over the past 8 months, and marvel at the fact that they still have a sense of humor. They are more or less the same amazing kids that they always were. But, this experience has changed them forever. My only hope is that some good will come out of it, and there will be lessons learned that they can and will pass down to their children someday.
This year, more than ever I want to remind people that there are so many children out there that we can’t forget about. This season it’s essential that we celebrate with gusto, give to those that don’t have what we do and encourage kids to appreciate and enjoy the lives that they have.
I know that this sounds cliche, but let’s not forget the reason for the season. Whether you celebrate Hanukkah, Christmas or Kwanza… there is so much more than Santa and presents. This year children need to be reminded on what this season is about. It was founded on love…..
